HCCME YEAR IN REVIEW

July marked the two-year anniversary since HCCME transitioned to a one-state coalition, as well as the beginning of a new fiscal year (2022-2023). We are very proud of our accomplishments and the support we have been able to provide our members and would not have had such a successful year without the participation from our amazing membership, so THANK YOU!

organization Agreements

HCCME would like to thank the latest organizations to submit new Organization Agreement Forms!
• Coastal Opportunities
• Central Maine Healthcare
• Danforth Habilitation Association
• Maine Behavioral Healthcare
• Maine Veterans' Home-Caribou
• Northern Light Mayo Hospital
• Riverview Psychiatric Center

As a reminder, all organizations involved with the coalition are encouraged to complete the new organization agreement form as any older version of a membership agreement submitted prior to November 2021 is no longer valid.

We appreciate our membership taking a few moments in their day to move your organization along to the next step in the process to becoming an “active member”.

How to Hold Well-Being Debriefings at Your Organization on August 8th @ 12:00 PM ET

Health care organizations are increasingly offering opportunities for health care workers to debrief about work challenges. Well-being debriefings are informal, peer-facilitated, small-group meetings where participants can give voice to the difficult nature of their work and discuss issues that negatively affect resiliency (e.g., burnout, stress, compassion fatigue).

Introduction to Disaster Available Supplies in Hospitals (DASH) Tool on August 15th @ 11:30-12:30 ET

Hospitals deal with stressed supply chains every day. Just-in-time inventory is common, and hospitals run the risk of not having enough supplies when a disaster strikes. ASPR TRACIE and Healthcare Ready developed the Disaster Available Supplies in Hospitals (DASH) tool in collaboration with the Health Industry Distributors Association, the Region VII Disaster Health Response Ecosystem, and other subject matter experts to address this challenge.

Active Shooter/Assailant: Behavioral Indicators and How to Respond (OLS-V9: AWR-933-V9) on August 17th @ 11:30 AM ET

Active Shooter/Assailant: Behavioral Indicators and How to Respond will cover the fundamental elements of behavioral recognition of an active shooter such as understanding and articulating physical cues, tactical cues, and weapons cues. Additionally, directed conversation as a precursor to interview/interrogation of an active shooter will also be discussed. The Run, Hide, Fight concept for staying alive during such an event will be presented.

The Intersection of Disasters and Climate Change Webinar on August 18th @ 2:00 PM ET
Climate and disaster work are inextricably linked. Disasters do not happen in isolation from one another. The research does not suggest that the number of disasters we now face is an outlier, but rather just the beginning of what is to come as the consequences of the climate crisis begin to manifest. We must address not only our nation’s readiness to manage but also our capacity to manage multiple threats at once. Understanding the strain that emergency management is currently under can address the changes we need to make in anticipation of our increasing risk.

Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) Toolkit

CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO) recently released an Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) Toolkit. This toolkit provides information and resources for emergency preparedness and response personnel, families, and the public to ensure that infants and toddlers are fed safely when natural disasters strike, such as hurricanes, floods, wildfires, earthquakes, and tornadoes. This toolkit focuses on IYCF-E preparedness and response efforts specific to the U.S. and its territories.
Specifically, the IYCF-E toolkit contains:

  • Information, resources, and tools for states, communities, programs, and emergency preparedness and response personnel on how to best support families and provide optimal nutrition to infants and young children during emergencies, including health equity considerations.

  • Printable handouts that can be used with or given to families.

  • Information for families and caregivers on common questions and how to be prepared to feed infants and young children during emergencies.

  • Information for the public on donations during emergencies.

New! Disaster Available Supplies in Hospitals (DASH) Tool by ASPR TRACIE

This interactive tool (designed by ASPR TRACIE) is now available at dashtool.org. Hospital emergency planners and supply chain staff can use DASH to estimate supplies categorized in four modules (pharmaceutical, burn, trauma, and PPE) that may need to be immediately available during various mass casualty incidents and infectious disease emergencies based on hospital characteristics. Each module also incorporates pediatric sizes and specific medication needs as appropriate.

ASPR TRACIE Innovations in Hospital Design Speaker Series Recordings

Today’s hospitals must be innovative and flexible to meet a variety of patient, community, and geographic needs. As part of ASPR TRACIE’s Healthcare System Preparedness Considerations Speaker Series, the team has highlighted two hospital systems that have made changes to improve the patient experience. See below for more information and links to the recordings:

  • Penn Med Pavilion - highlights design and construction, patient-led care technology, operational readiness, and sustainability.

  • The Mayo Clinic - created home hospital programs mediated by command center care delivery.

ASPR TRACIE Chemical Emergency Considerations for Healthcare Facilities Checklist

This checklist can assist health care facilities in preparing for a chemical emergency by providing key information and considerations that can be used for planning and response purposes.
